Despite my neighbor swearing there are bears on the conservation land behind
our houses, I've seen no sign of them. I suspect my compost would be
attacked first.

Near the Wal-mart shopping area behind Taco Bell in Surfside going north on
the service road off 17 bypass.
It might be the same one there last fall.

Bears

Wildlife experts are saying that Bears are starting to come out of
hibernation and are very hungry. They recommend bringing bird feeders
in. I think I will bring mine in at night but put them out during the
day for now.

Especially if you watch the migration 'bloom' on NEXRAD.
Here in Philippi, the Tygart river may flood tonight or tomorrow
because of the sudden melting of the substantial snowpack to the east
of us combined with the rain forecast for tonight. My house is far
above the river, but there may be water in the streets in some places

Yesterday, the season's first Starling showed up in my backyard and this
morning, a Bald Eagle flew over the neighbourhood! :)

Saw some Canada Geese yesterday at a local pond were there is usually a
nesting pair or two. We'll see.

During our visit to the Sitka Raptor Center last May, we were told that
amputation of toes can be enough to make it impossible to release a rehabbed
Bald Eagle.
As I recall, amputation of the rear toe prevents the eagle from being able to
hunt efficiently.
