Realized a while ago--no Collared Doves for some time. No hordes of black birds. An occasional Red Winged. Haven't seen the mystery Hawk for a while. No Turkeys for several days. Fewer Juncos, it seems like.

Birding on Bear Island
|
| |
Yesterday was a great birding day. It started in my backyard with a couple if Fish Crows--not a new yard bird but a rare one none the less. On to Bear Island where there were swans, geese, ducks, herons, egrets everywhere. I saw two of my favorite shore birds--American Avocet and Black-necked Stilt. They are my favorites because they are... Mehr »

robins and others

A week ago a flock of robins showed up. They're still around, bob-bob-bobbin' along. Saturday I saw what I thought was that darned cowbird perched on my 4-perch tube feeder filled with bosf's. Gorgeous! I hope they stick around this year. The "icing on the cake" is that there... Mehr »

Spring is progressing nicely in SW Oregon
|

I saw my first Western Bluebird pair today. They were sitting about 12 inches apart on a small pine so likely it is a mated pair. We have 5 boxes out which are designed specifically for Western Bluebirds and average 1 or 2 fledgings per year. Go Bluebirds. Charlie

I seldom see at my feeder:
|
| |
Purple Finches, rare, but this winter we've had 3 females and two males. Pine Warblers, never before, but this winter two have been fighting with the Yellow-rumps. Baltimore Orioles, I usually have seven at the feeders, but this winter only one female, a male visited but kept going... Juncos, usually everywhere, but only one all winter... Mehr »
